Everybody offers internship: Design a cherished child’s coffin for South Africa

During a recent research project in Botswana and South Africa the Everybody Company had discovered that there is social and emotional need for affordable and respectful child’s coffins for traditional funerals. Infant and Child mortality is extremely high in Southern Africa, families struggle to pay for a child’s funeral. The Everybody Company believes that an effective and sensitive coffin design can considerably add to the emotional well being of those dealing with tragedy.
Practical details
We are looking for a student specializing in package design to carry out this project. This project will take place in the Netherlands where the student will have access to our production facilities. The duration of the project is 3 months (negotiable). A fee will be provided to the student to help cover their expenses during the duration of the project. The Everybody Company will also pay for materials used in their prototypes. The start date is flexible and it is possible to carry out the project during the summer months. Some experience working with 2/3d software is desirable. A reasonable quality of English is expected. The student will be mentored by two product designers in the Netherlands and in South Africa.
We are looking for a practical designer who is focused and motivated.
Deliverables
We expect a number of usable design solutions which we can evaluated in South Africa. Students can expect feedback from South African families on their designs which will help the student choose and improve on their best designs.
The final design must be culturally appropriate, feasible and embody the Everybody brand identity. It is expected that many prototypes will be made throughout the design process.
The student will use video conferencing to present their ideas (interim presentation) and their final design (final design) to their mentor panel.
